Those who are familiar with me know my deep connection with art and how much I enjoy seeking inspiration from the most exceptional artists of the past. My personal favorite one is Borghese Gallery and Museum, a villa housing 15th- to 18th-century artworks with pieces by Bernini & Caravaggio with gorgeous Borghese Gardens. I highly suggest visiting this extraordinary place even if it is not included in your itinerary. If you happen to be in Rome, make sure to stop by and witness the wonder of marble that cannot be put into words!

Psychology - HSP
Highly Sensitive Person, or HSP, is a term coined by psychologist Elaine Aron. According to Aron’s theory, HSPs are a subset of the population who are high in a personality trait known as sensory-processing sensitivity, or SPS. The trait of high sensitivity, also known as sensory processing sensitivity, is found in 15% to 30% of the population and has been researched for over 30 years. It is characterized by a more responsive nervous system, an ability to perceive subtle nuances in the surroundings, and a tendency to process information with greater depth. If the average person’s brain takes in 100 pieces of information, the sensitive person’s brain takes in 1,000.
I came across the term "Highly Sensitive Person" for the first time when a friend recommended the book "The Highly Sensitive Person: How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You". Reading the book helped me gain a better understanding of this trait I had and its benefits, not just its drawbacks.
The following are the Kindle highlights I made while going through the book:
- First, they notice what others miss, having a greater sense of what is happening for their team. Second, they prefer to process more than simply to take action, often standing back to let others on their team receive credit. Third, and most important, they exhibit what is called “resonant leadership,” obtaining a “feel” for what is going on, often nonverbal, so that they lead with understanding and empathy. Such leaders tend to “say and do the right things at just the right time. This isn’t luck or magic, it’s their innate ability to feel deeply, process richly, and patiently consider the right words and actions for the moment.”
- “…your intuition is right often enough that HSPs tend to be visionaries, highly intuitive artists, or inventors, as well as more conscientious, cautious, and wise people.”

Last month, Melody Wilding, who is an executive coach and author of "Trust Yourself: Stop Overthinking and Channel Your Emotions for Success at Work," wrote an article in HBR (Harvard Business Review) that provides an excellent example of how an employee's high sensitivity can become a great superpower if they learn to identify it. Managing highly sensitive people requires a learning curve but is necessary to take advantage of their assets. Managers should shift their perspective, provide clarity, give HSPs time to formulate responses and understand their need for decompression. By recognizing and valuing the contributions of highly sensitive team members, managers can create a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture that benefits everyone.
